Carla’s Epiphany

Many years into her recovery Carla was talking about her emotional recovery:

“It used to be that I didn’t know what I was feeling”, she said. “When I was using, I only felt ‘pissed or fine’. Feelings didn’t really register with me and I really didn’t care. The other day I helped a customer who was looking for sympathy cards in my store, a friend of hers had died and she wanted to send a card to the family. The problem was, she forgot her glasses and she asked if I would read a selection to her. I got through a couple and began to well up. Then, openly cry. Before long we were both blubbering in the greeting card aisle. It was beautiful!” she said. I realized how much I have grown in recovery. I felt very connected to humanity.”
