Substance use disorders take a tremendous toll.

SUDs are a major public health concern affecting individuals, families, communities, and society.
If you think you have a problem and can’t abstain from use on your own, we can help.
If you think you need detoxification help, please call us for resources.

Not just a biological disease, healing from addiction occurs through a whole person regimen of care addressing invisible aspects of humanity, including human spirit, familial and systemic relationships, emotional competency, and an exploration of your own inherent resources for healing and growth. NCWC has been successfully treating substance use disorders since 1996, integrating conventional Western and Eastern approaches to well-being.

Practical Treatment for Substance Use Disorders

Substance abuse thrives in isolation and silence. Driven by shame and fear, problematic use often goes underground, exacerbating symptoms, and perpetuating hopelessness. A community of support is an essential requisite for change. Austin’s self-help community is robust, though sometimes not enough to enact change. Many thrive in a more structured regimen of care that provides accountable relationships, education, skill building, family involvement, and treatment planning tailored to the specific concerns of the participant. Our scope of practice provides for intensity of services while allowing participants to live and work in their own communities.

Intensive Outpatient Programming

Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) is a level of care that meets 3 days a week for 3 hours each day. NCWC’s IOP follows a group format and is offered morning or evening over the course of 20 days [link to schedule]. Successfully completing the 20 day regimen leads to a stronger prognosis, particularly when combined with follow up services, including ‘aftercare’ groups, individual counseling, and self-help involvement. Our forward, integrative healthcare approaches include individualized treatment planning, drug screening, psycho-educational lectures, interactive group therapy, family programming, nutritional assessment, individual/family counseling, and a variety of non-talk therapies including auricular acupuncture, Yoga, qigong, mindful meditations, and other contemplative practices.

Medications in Treatment

Medications can be a helpful bridge on your journey to sobriety and well-being. Prescription medications can assist with detoxification, curtail urges, and provide stability needed to benefit from programming and psychotherapy. However, American culture’s reliance on medications as a way of life has contributed significantly to addiction in our society. We help our clients reduce and eliminate the use of addictive medications (e.g. Xanax, Adderall, Vicodin) and to achieve independence from an unhealthy attachment to ‘pharmaceutical quick fixes’. We work closely with ASAM (American Association of Addiction Medicine) physicians, psychiatrists providing more than medication management, and your primary care physician to assure mood altering medications do not become a problem for you.

How To Get Started

Call, ask questions, help us understand your concerns, then schedule an assessment. This initial meeting is a prerequisite of all programming to follow and helps us gather as much information as possible about your presenting issues. Assessment determines a range of possible holistic services, helps to develop an appropriate plan of action, and encourages movement towards a solution.

Confidential Healthcare Information

Your personal healthcare information must be respected. Confidential healthcare information is a client right; protected by HIPAA, and enforced by counselor ethics, state licensure, and common sense therapeutic collaboration. Exceptions to the rule revolve primarily around client safety.

You are in control of what others know about your participation in NCWC services. It often makes sense to involve others in your process (family members, employers, attorneys, employers, probation officer). Developing a network of support is crucial for long term sobriety and well-being. Disclosing your involvement in NCWC services requires your permission to share information through a ‘release of information’ document. You determine who is allowed to know what, why, and for how long.
