Our Methods
Our integrative approach promotes ‘participatory medicine’ empowering individuals (you) to discover and mobilize inherent resources for healing associated with the ‘inside job’ of recovery and well-being. NCWC has been a pioneer in promoting integration of East and West healing philosophies in Central Texas. Since 1996, we have provided contemplative and ‘non-traditional’ therapies to our treatment curriculum. Yoga, NADA acupuncture, qigong, and meditation are among the few contemplative practices regularly offered through our programs and services.
Conventional Western approaches first seek to medicalize and medicate symptoms of suffering. These approaches see the client (you) through a biological lens and down play invisible and unique aspects of health and well-being.
Today, the use of ancient mindful skills are the fastest growing approaches in clinical practices – because they work. Healing properties of mindful therapies transcend diagnoses and are the active ingredient in effective psychotherapy.

Our Philosophy
Life is greater than your raw genetic material. You deserve holistic treatment and a philosophy of care that embraces a broader view of humanity and well-being. Simply avoiding discomfort or chasing feel-good coping does not eliminate the nature of suffering. Empowering individuals to develop community, relational, familial, systemic, mindful, and spiritual skills can make a tremendous difference in the human experience of happiness and well-being. Avoidance of misery often exacerbates suffering and contributes to shame and isolation. Learn to face life’s difficulties and hold them lightly, with courage, compassion, support, and skill while reconnecting to the values that matter in life. We believe that life can be meaningful and joyous despite the universal nature of suffering during our human journey.
The change you seek is possible. You are not alone, call today.

Mindful (Non-Talk) Approaches to Well-Being
Mindful exercises are experiential and do not require verbalization, correct responses, or expert skill. Mindful approaches are simple, portable, effective, and help cultivate an inner realm of healing resources.
Regular practice of mindful approaches reduce symptoms associated with mental health diagnoses, high stress, low self-esteem, chronic pain, and promote well-being.
Nada Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular or ear acupuncture for addiction is a standardized treatment using the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) five point protocol in each ear. These points help to detoxify the body, promote relaxation, reduce cravings, and increase confidence. The five point protocol is administered by professionals trained in the NADA protocol. NCWC has used this protocol to promote abstinence and harm reduction, and general well-being for over 20 years. Dr. Harvey is an advocate and trainer of the NADA five point protocol.
Qigong
Qigong is a type of breath and movement meditation that stimulates energy, promotes healing, and improves overall well-being. Qigong exercises release your innate healing potential, often with dramatic results. Qigong is a regular component of addiction treatment programming and is occasionally offered in a class setting to the general public.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient mindful practice that promotes body awareness, balance, strength, flexibility, and peace of mind. Yoga generally includes a series of postures combined with breathing exercises. NCWC provides gentle (Hatha and Restorative) Yoga requiring no prior skill from participants.
Meditation
We teach a variety of meditation and contemplative exercises to encourage moment-to-moment awareness. Meditation is a way to achieve inner calm, access insight, and learn to get out of your own way. Cultivating attunement to present moment living is an extraordinary skill for well-being.
Adjunct Therapies Onsite
Massage Therapy
Massage promotes a mind-body connection and is a wonderful adjunct to counseling and psychotherapy, helping to detoxify, manage stress, physical discomfort, and cultivate holistic well-being. Michaela Keller, Registered Massage Therapist, provides massages on site.
Diet and Nutrition
Nutritional counseling is available on site. Poor diets are a national health concern contributing to a wide range of issues including obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, difficulty sleeping, food cravings, reduced mental clarity, and fatigue. NCWC can help with purification programs to help your body ‘reset’ and introduce you to a more balanced approach to diet. Masako Wada, LAc, MS is NCWC’s Director of Integrative Therapies. She provides nutritional counseling, organic herbal cleansing programs, and herbal therapies to support, self-care and well-being.
